Ein entscheidendes Kriterium, das Voraussetzung ist sowohl für den Aufstieg im cursus honorum als auch für die Repräsentation des sozialen Ranges des nordafrikanischen Munizipalaristokraten Romanianus, der vom Dekurionen- in den Reichsadelstand aufzusteigen sucht, ist das auf Grundbesitz beruhende Vermögen. Die von Romanianus geleisteten Aktivitäten, das Anbieten von kostspieligen Schauspielen und Banketten sowie sein Lebensstil sind Ausdruck eines überdurchschnittlichen Vermögens. – Reichtum als konstituierender Faktor von Adel ist sowohl die Grundlage der Ausgaben, die Bedingung zur Erlangung des Titels eines honoratus sind, als auch des Lebensstils, der Ausdruck des sozialen Ranges von Romanianus ist. In beiden Fällen spielt der Euergetismus, die Wohltätigkeit, eine wichtige Rolle.
